Satijn Panyigay makes photographic work. Fascinated by the psyche of the human being, she mainly captures vacant locations that are briefly not fulfilling their function. Empty exhibition rooms of museums and their depots, interiors of newly constructed homes or buildings undergoing renovation have her interest. Panyigay takes her photographs during meditative explorations of the void spaces, with an analog camera. Her minimalist work, in absence of any direct human narratives, is surprisingly humane – it addresses the feelings of its observer.

'Light Leak' is a work that stands on its own. On the one hand, the title refers to the physical problem you can have with an analog camera where unwanted light leaks in, looking similar to the light in the room depicted here. On the other hand, to the leakage of energy when you are confronted with negativity in your life, and the art of looking at it with understanding and consciously adding the light again.

Satijn Panyigay (b. 1988 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands) studied photography at the Utrecht School of Art, where she continues to live and work. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at a.o. Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam); Fotomuseum Den Haag; Museum Tot Zover (Amsterdam); Villa Mondriaan (Winterswijk); Museum W. Her works are in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum Tot Zover, Museum Van Bommel Van Dam and Museum W., among others, as well as in numerous private collections.
